It only took 28 seconds for the Marple-Newtown Tigers to take a lead against the Radnor Raiders in a key Central Division showdown last Monday at the Iceworks in Aston. Freshman Parker Maas struck on a wrap-around goal that beat Radnor's goalie Noah Klag. Marple took a 2-0 lead when Matt Taxin put a shot past Klag, who was well screened by a slew of Marple forwards. Despite putting 19 shots on the Tigers' goal in the first period, Radnor only managed to score once, late in the period when Conner McNally put a pass from Trip Farren in the net.

The second period was much like the first, with most of the play in Marple's zone. Radnor peppered goalie Gage Perchetti with 16 shots. But about halfway through Parker Maas struck again with his second goal of the game, giving Marple (No. 6 in the Class 'A' Top 10) a commanding 3-1 lead.

Radnor was not giving up, however, and struck back just twenty seconds later, when Billy Curtis put a pass from Wes Middendorf past Perchetti. Nick Lombardi won the ensuing faceoff and passed to linemate Teddy Smith, Radnor's most prolific player on offense (20 pts. on the season). Smith carried it into the Marple zone and slid the puck back to Lombardi, who made the shot. In less than a minute, Radnor had evened the score at 3.

But Maas scored the only goal of the third period, completing his hat-trick with less than five minutes to go, and giving Marple the 4-3 victory. Until this game, the freshman had scored just one goal on the whole season.

Perchetti was outstanding in net for Marple making 44 saves and posting a .936 save percentage for the game.

The Tigers improved their overall record to 6-5-2 and their division mark to 4-5-2. Nevertheless the two teams are tied in points at 10, while undefeated Springfield continues to dominate the Central with 20 points (9-0-2).
